Mystery Man...do you know him...? Part 2

Sazball knew it was Clint Eastwood before I posted the second picture of Clint and his dad! As we all now know, the kid grew up to become a multi-talented and much-awarded icon with a long and diverse career. He played two different iconic characters ("the man with no name" in the '60s and "Dirty Harry Callahan" in the '70s and '80s) at different points in his acting career...he branched out from acting...no kidding! Clint will turn 80 in a couple of weeks, believe it or not...great work, Saz!

ClassicBecky recognized Robert Mitchum who was up to mischief from childhood...he had another side and would later show talent for writing and especially acting (he even cut records!). A star on the Walk of Fame and a Golden Globe don't adequately reflect his popularity or talent...Mitchum is forever linked to film noir and starred in one of the genre's classics, Out of the Past (1947). He brilliantly portrayed psychopaths in The Night of the Hunter (1955) and Cape Fear (1962). He died in 1996...the day before the passing of James Stewart. Great work Becky...and thanks to Dawn, Kim and Julie who took part in round 1.

Will be back shortly with Mystery Man #2...

A sampling of our mystery man's co-stars...

  1. Great guesses, but it isn't JD or Robin...he was a bad boy before Dean was on the scene...and his career was long enough that he was still active when Robin Williams became a star...he's linked to a particular genre...

  2. Good guess, but it's not Beatty...this actor got his start in the '40s and worked into the 1990s...while associated with a classic '40s-'50s genre, he portrayed psychopathic criminals in two his most memorable films...he died one day before a beloved star who had an even longer career, and his own passing was somewhat overlooked...

  3. Great work, Becky...you recognized Mr. Mitchum while I was working on pix of his co-stars - but before I finished posting them...

  4. Thanks Eve. First one I ever got right! I must admit the clues were more help than the picture. Who would think that tow-headed angelface would be big bad Bob? I just love him! What a man!

  5. Becky - The only real clue in the picture is his cleft chin, but the little toddler gives no hint of the wild one he was to become...As a young man he wrote for his sister's nightclub act... he later did his own singing in his films that required it and even cut a couple of albums...

  8. At first I took "multi-talented" to mean singer, actor, dancer. Then I thought actor-director and the clue about two iconic characters helped.

  9. ...and he's composed music for several of his films, too...not to mention producer - he was exec producer on the recent Johnny Mercer doc shown on TCM..what an amazing career he's had...as his b'day approaches I'm wishing Mr. Eastwood all the best and many more years as a filmmaker...
