Who's That Lady? Part II

Paul recognized our second mystery lady, Norma Shearer - who became very big in Hollywood in more than one way... she was a top star, an Oscar winning Best Actress, and was powerful (and got plum roles) as the wife of MGM mogul Irving Thalberg. Her brother, Douglas, headed up MGM's sound dept. for decades. In the '40s, Shearer discovered Janet Leigh who became a top star of the '50s...Great work Paul!

Gilby recognized our first mystery woman, Julie Andrews. She gained popularity during the second half of the 20th Century...first on stage - with several Broadway hits and a hit TV musical version of "Cinderella." She has won many awards including an Oscar, Emmys, BAFTAs, Golden Globes, a Lifetime Achievement award from SAG and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame - plus a couple of Tony nominations. She went on stage in the '40s and continues to perform in the 21st Century. Congrats Gilby!

  1. Good answer Kim -- if it's not her I don't know who else it would be.

  2. Great guesses, but she isn't Sissy or Natalie...this star got her start on the stage and has won a variety of awards...

  3. Another good guess, but no...I'm going to post another photo that may be more revealing...our star has appeared on stage, screen and TV and her career spans seven decades...

  7. Paul, you are so right, it's Norma Shearer before she was at the top. The first photo was one of a series of (tasteful) nudes she posed for...

Thanks again to all who played...and next week it will be mystery man time...

  8. Thanks for the tidbit on Norma discovering Janet Leigh -- I was praying you would not say Richard Anderson who married Shearer's daughter after divorcing Alan Ladd's daughter. Something always bugged me about that guy -- that's why I love it when Noreen Corcoran points to him when the cops arrive in the midst of chaos in "I Love Melvin." The cops take him away as Noreen smirks and I did too!

  9. Gilby, I love Orson Welles' verbal jabs at Richard Anderson's character in THE LONG HOT SUMMER.

  10. I never would have guessed the pigtailed youngster was Julie Andrews, not from the side profile shot. Gilby and Paul, you both are great at this game!

  11. Congrats to Gilby and Paul! I just now read this, having some leg injury problems, but I did recognize Norma Shearer. However, I didn't get Julie Andrews at all. Great fun!
