Trivia Time - Part 60

Who Am I? My Hollywood career began in a film directed by Fritz Lang. I was in three movies with Vincent Price, was directed twice by Joseph Mankiewicz, and appeared once with Jessica Tandy. Who Am I?

Who Are We? The person from the first Who Am I? made three films with each of us separately. In addition, the two of us made one film together without Who Am I? #1. Who Are We?

1. Name all of the films mentioned in Who Am I?.

2. Name all of the films mentioned in Who Are We?.

3. Name at least two things these films have in common: Plymouth Adventure, Holiday Inn, and Miracle on 34th Street.

4. Name four films starring both Van Johnson and Spencer Tracy.

5. Name Walt Disney's first animated wide-screen movie and the format it was filmed in.

6. Name five things the following films have in common: Red River and Rio Bravo.

7. Name at least one thing the following films have in common: It Happened One Night, Devil Dogs of the Air, The Mortal Storm, and It's a Wonderful Life.

8. Name the movie that always seemed to be playing at the local theater on the TV series, Dobie Gillis (Maynard G. Krebs mentioned it frequently).

9. Name a British-born, Oscar-winning male character actor who was married only once for less than one year, directed four times by Alfred Hitchcock, and who was less than 5'6" tall.

10. Who was MGM's first choice to play Glinda, the Good Witch of the North, in the Wizard of Oz?

  1. Who am I? Peter Lorre
    Tales of Terror
    Comedy of Terror
    The Raven

    So far, so good?

  2. Good guess, Becks, but Lorre's first Hollywood film was not directed by Lang (M was not a Hollywood film). Sorry!

  3. #4. A guy Named Joe, State of the Union, Plymouth Adventure...

  4. 1.) Assuming Dawn is correct.(I believe she is)! Gene made The Return of Frank James for Lang. With Mankiewicz she made The Ghost & Mrs. Muir and Dragonwyck. With Price, she made Dragonwyck, Leave Her to Heaven, and Laura. With Tandy, only Dragonwyck

  5. Who are we? Henry Fonda & Tyrone Power

2.) Gene & Henry made The Return of Frank James, Rings on Her Fingers, and Advise & Consent together.
Gene & Ty made That Wonderful Urge, Razor's Edge, and Son of Fury together
Henry & Ty made Jesse James together

  6. Dawn, yes, you're right! Who Am I? is Gene Tierney! I told JoAnn that you'd nail it, LOL!

You also got 3 out of 4 of the Tracy-Johnson films! Just one more....keep thinking!

However, Billie Burke was not the first (or second) choice for Glinda.

Gilby, you definitely got #1! Good job! And your answer to #2 fits, so I have to give it to you, although I was looking for someone other than Henry Fonda with Ty Power. For a free pass for next week, can you think of another actor who also made 3 movies with Gene Tierney and one with Power? Big clue: he also made at least two films with Henry Fonda!

BTW, you're spot on with your answer to #9 too! It is Edmund Gwenn! Very good!

  7. I was going to say Dana Andrews but he and Gene made more than 3 movies if my memory is correct. Andrews did make Crash Dive with Power & The ox Bow Incident and Daisy Kenyon with Fonda though.
Andrews & Tierney teamed for Laura, Tobacco Road, Where the Sidewalk Ends, Belle Starr

  8. 5.)Sleping Beauty was filmed in Technirama

  9. #10 First choice to play Glinda - Errol Flynn.

  10. #8 The Monster That Devoured Cleveland

  11. Gilby, you got #10! Fanny Brice was the first choice to play Glinda (despite the suggestion by Becks that it was actually Errol Flynn)!

Becks you really have Flynn on the brain, don't you! LOL!

Gilby, you get your free pass, because you remembered a couple of Andrews-Tierney flicks that I didn't (Tobacco Road and Belle Starr). But you did forget about Iron Curtain!

BTW, Dana Andrews and Henry Fonda were both in Battle of the Bulge and In Harm's Way.

Sorry, #5 is not Sleeping Beauty.

And last but not least, #8 is indeed The Monster That Devoured Cleveland. You got it Becks!

I have to go now, I have to watch them tear down the old Endicott Building.

  12. Recap: still need answers to #s 3, (part of) 4, 5, 6, and 7.

  13. #6.John Wayne, The song "settle Down" AKA "My Rifle Pony and Me", Howard Hawks, a belt Buckle with the letter D. (The Red River Logo), filmed in AZ.

  14. Paul, I don't ALWAYS have Errol Flynn on on the brain -- you and JoAnn have created a monster! Now I always do look for an Errol Flynn question. Not seeing one I recognized here, I made one up (can't you just see Flynn is Glinda's dress and hat, waving a wand?) Blasphemy!

  15. 5.) Lady and the Tramp was in Cinemascope

  16. OK Dawn, I'll take those for #6. I thought that some of the more obvious ones included: Walter Brennan was in both, both films were Westerns, and both had scores by Dimitri Tiomkin! But what do I know? LOL!

You certainly came up with some interesting similarities....good job!

Becks, so now it's OUR fault? WE'VE created a monster??? I don't think so! LOL!

I remember a certain night at a certain bar that should remain know what I'm talking about and that's all I'm going to say.

  17. By the way, Becks, thanks for the visual of Flynn as Glinda....that's going to bug me for at least a week!

  18. Gilby....ta-dah! We have a winner! Lady and the Tramp and Cinemascope are the answers to #5!

  19. Recap: still need answers to #s 3, (part of) 4, and 7.

  20. Paul, I forgot about Walter Brennan..LOL.. So you got me there. I also think John Wayne wore the same hat in both films. But.. I'm not 100% sure.

Becks, LOL.. I know Flynn wore tights, but... a dress?? :D

  21. Gilby! Sorry for the delay in my response, but you are correct! The last piece of the puzzle for question #4 is 30 Seconds Over Tokyo!
