The Movie-TV Connection Game (Dec 2016)

Bing Crosby and Tyrone Power.
'Tis the holiday season and time for making connections! Given a pair or trio of films or performers, your task is to find the common connection. It could be anything--two stars who acted in the same movie, two movies that share a common theme, etc. As always, don't answer all the questions so others can play, too. There is a single best answer for each question.

1. Charlton Heston and Clark Gable.

2. Michael Caine and John Saxon.

3. Shelley Winters and Burt Lancaster.

4. Jason Robards, Jr. and Shirley Jones.

5. Clint Eastwood and Charles Bronson.

6. E.G. Marshall and Arthur Hill.

7. Veronica Lake and Agnes Moorehead (an easy one!).

8. Montgomery Clift and Bing Crosby.

9. Ray Milland and Patrick McGoohan.

10. Joan Fontaine and Kirk Douglas.

11. Gregory Peck and Robert Lansing.

12. Tyrone Power and Bing Crosby.

13. Ronald Colman and Danny Kaye.

14. Charles Laughton and Gene Hackman.

15. Robert Stack and Dana Andrews.

50 comments:

  1. 15.Zero Hour and its remake Airplane.

    1. Well done, Bill! Impressed that you got the LAURA connection, as few folks have seen the one with Jackie O's sister (actually, it was the first LAURA I saw).

    2. That tv tape seems to have vanished. Rumor was Radizwill bought all the copies and destroyed them. I don't remember much of it other than how awful she was. Adaptation by Truman Capote, who was sucking up to society types then.

  2. 3. Disaster movies - Lancaster in Airplane and Winters in Poseidon Adventure.

    1. Yes, the AIRPORT-POSEIDON connection works, but there's a more direct one between these two.

    2. They were in the Young Savages together, and according to Shelley, had a secret affair for a number of years with each other.

  3. 7. Witches -- Moorehead on Bewitched and Lake in I Married A Witch

  4. 11. Twelve O'Clock High - Peck in the film and Lansing on the first year of the TV show. They both played General Savage

    1. Yes, indeed. Always liked Robert Lansing.

    2. I stopped watching the TV show after that first year when Lansing left!

    3. Why did Lansing leave the series? I thought he was great that first year.

    4. ABC wanted a more modern-hunky looking guy - not as brooding as Lansing came across. - Darn it - that killed the series in my option. The depth Lansing brought to his character was terrific I thought.

    5. Lansing was fired from the show. Quinn Martin hated Lansing and told William Self that he just had to fire Lansing. Self told Martin that if he wanted to fire Lansing, he would have to be replaced with someone who could carry the show. Martin immediately mentioned Paul Burke, and Self approved.

  13. 5. Maybe the other answer you were looking for on this one is Sergio Leone Spaghetti Westerns -- Eastwood in the Dollars Trilogy and Bronson in Once Upon A Time In The West (a role Eastwood turned down).

    1. This is always such an interesting game! The first connection I thought of bareknuckle fights: Eastwood in ANY WHICH WAY YOU CAN and Bronson in HARD TIMES. But all the others are valid and fun.

  20. #3.....The Young Savages? Apart from that movie , according to Shelley Winters biography, her connection to Burt Lancaster was as close as a connection can get. Alas he was already married.
