Saw Monty's post on Destry, though.

Rick, I also enjoy movies where the hero is finally pushed to the limit and has to man-up (so to speak) by strapping on his guns--or his fists, ala The Quiet Man.Kimberly J.M. I prefer James Stewart in his post-WWII films like the Mann Westerns, the Hitchcock films, and HARVEY. But DESTRY RIDES AGAIN is still a favorite. Marlene gets a lot of the attention and she's very good. But Stewart anchors the film and, as you point, the role fitS his easy-goinG style perfectly. Also, I have a soft for movies where the hero has to hold back on kicking butt--for various reasons--but finally has to strap on his guns or put up his fists (other examples being SHANE and THE BIG BOSS).Rick29https://www.blogger.com/profile/08358116647815569722noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5344878851139332715.post-62533066512577419802010-03-27T12:07:16.320-04:002010-03-27T12:07:16.320-04:00Kim, it is wonderful to have you at the Cafe! And Marelene Dietrich's Frenchy was the first of the three and arguably the most memorable, too.

I loved your photos, especially Destry's arrival with a parasol in one hand and a birdcage in the other and a sweet grin on his face. One thing is for certain: Bottleneck will never be the same again!

I really loved Marlene's golden ringlets in her hair. But she was no Shirley Temple. Great post, Kim!toto2https://www.blogger.com/profile/09652682900471649463noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5344878851139332715.post-2035497186491268402010-03-27T10:19:10.290-04:002010-03-27T10:19:10.290-04:00Kim , Welcome to the cafe. I do know that it is Jimmy Stewart's first western. You can check out the "catfight" between Frenchy and Lily Belle Callahan, on Noir and Chick Flicks: Great Western Page. When you get time, please stop by. :)Dawnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03476174860119487509noreply@blogger.com
