But I always did wonder why the little boy had a Southern accent? Hmmmm. A mystery never to be solved. I loved Lionel Atwill in this and the scene between him, Rathbone and the little boy in which the father explains about the mechanical arm, I've always found very touching.

Basil Rathbone's over the top manic performance is just right I've always thought. I mean, wouldn't you be manic under the circumstances?

The only thing I really liked in BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN was the bride, of course (though her on screen time is short enough) and the creepy Dr. Pretorious and his oh-so-strange collection of tiny people in glass jars. It boasts fascinating sets and impeccable lighting and music that truly make the film resonate in expressionistic atmosphere. Bela Lugosi is masterful as Ygor and Peter is quite good as the grandson of the Son of Frankenstein. I am not sure that the Frankensteins would have been able to leave so readily at the film's end, given what happened, but it is believable that the townspeople would have liked them gone.toto2https://www.blogger.com/profile/09652682900471649463noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5344878851139332715.post-74572241733640202822015-01-29T20:26:56.845-05:002015-01-29T20:26:56.845-05:00True enough. Little Petey Von Frankenstein's still around, and has done conventions, as well as a long interview for Video Watchdog. But not only is it modern, it's post-modern: Rathbone's complaint about the public's giving his name to the Monster - a very "meta" moment. Lionel Atwill's tragic absurdist Inspector was transported almost virtually unchanged to Young Frankenstein. And I still think that kid's a Shirley Temple parody. Wonder how the film would've turned out with the original choice for Rathbone's role - Peter Lorre.Bill Ohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06041905291496937729noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5344878851139332715.post-58334631347681692332015-01-29T14:35:19.960-05:002015-01-29T14:35:19.960-05:00I love Rathbone in this movie.
