I happened to watch RE-ANIMATOR during his presidential campaign and was struck by the similarity.Kevin Deanyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07697597405552599370noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5344878851139332715.post-45998667429913543562010-10-22T06:17:46.758-04:002010-10-22T06:17:46.758-04:00Becky, I was referring to Gordon's '91 ver...Becky, I was referring to Gordon's '91 version.sarkoffagushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00922698736476674377noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5344878851139332715.post-30197313002501899742010-10-21T22:42:41.334-04:002010-10-21T22:42:41.334-04:00This is a good movie, Sark. I agree with Becky about the blood and gore isn't bad except for small children. I also like Lovecraft. This movie is tame compared to the modern day horror/sci-fi movie. Some blood and gore never hurt anybody, well except of course the person actually being eviscerated. And small children.

I haven't seen it in years. What Pit and the Pendulum are you talking about recently seeing? You don't mean the Vincent Price version, do you? I have never see another one.ClassicBeckyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03591715859057540467noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5344878851139332715.post-73832674812603929712010-10-21T18:37:32.302-04:002010-10-21T18:37:32.302-04:00Thanks for the compliments, all! Yet, I must admit I did laugh a number of times because of its very dark humor.Kimberly J.M. It is indeed a stylish, original blend of horror, comedy, and (yes) gore. Combs is wonderful as the obssessed scientist, although David Gale has a couple of hilarious scenes. I'm glad you mentioned Richard Band's score, which may be the best Herrmann soundtrack not composed by Bernard Herrmann. I can't stress how hard it is to make a movie like this. Even Stuart Gordon and many of his RE-ANIMATOR collaborators couldn't replicate it (though FROM BEYOND has a great premise...but that's courtesy of Lovecraft). RE-ANIMATOR is not the kind of movie I'd recommend to all my friends (some may be offended), but for discerning viewers, it's a hoot and your superb review does it justice.Rick29https://www.blogger.com/profile/08358116647815569722noreply@blogger.com
