I also think it is Mitchum's best work. A scene that always gets me is when both the evil preacher and the kind Mrs. Cooper sing together on "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms." She is rocking in her chair with a rifle laying across her lap while he is outside in the dark. "Night" is so lyrical and I truly admire Charles Laughton for his vision. toto2https://www.blogger.com/profile/09652682900471649463noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5344878851139332715.post-64145523755394797022016-09-09T15:33:02.982-04:002016-09-09T15:33:02.982-04:00A perfect tribute and summation to a work of art t...A perfect tribute and summation to a work of art that embodies all that is best about film.Caftan Womanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05936895555808823221noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5344878851139332715.post-31940211888853025652016-09-09T06:47:46.155-04:002016-09-09T06:47:46.155-04:00I like to think that much of the vision of this fi...I like to think that much of the vision of this film was Laughton's, but you're right that so many talented folks worked on this one.

I can't watch this film too often because Mitchum's performance is that good. He is so menacing and creepy and evil, and Mitchum doesn't even seem like he's acting.

I like how you said only the innocence of a child could see Mitchum's character for what it is. I love the film. it is the best of both worlds, classic old 50's movie and present day reality.TaraMoriahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13475540970709783094noreply@blogger.com
