I always feel transported back to the silver screen! I adore the song "The Way You Look Tonight." It has a way of giving me a "glow just thinking of" my husband and our dates several decades ago. I love remembering the years gone by.

You have shared with all of us exceptional reviews of both "Top Hat" and "Swing Time". I also love "The Gay Divorcee" and Eve reminded us of the bungled "Chance is the fool's name for fate" that makes me giggle each time I see it again. Thank you for a lovely dance down memory lane.toto2https://www.blogger.com/profile/09652682900471649463noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5344878851139332715.post-1162256087616637592010-06-01T06:58:24.755-04:002010-06-01T06:58:24.755-04:00Kim, you are not going to believe this. On a simlar note, I've always thought it was unfair to female dancers that male dancers like Astaire and Kelly frequently be asked who their favorite partners were. They always show chivalry by refusing to answer or, in Kelly's case, to say it was the cartoon Tom from Tom and Jerry. But did anybody ever ask Rogers or Cyd Charisse or Vera Ellen or other female dancers who their favorite partner was? After all, the women are not just dragged around like mannequins in those numbers. (My feminist side rebels!)ClassicBeckyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03591715859057540467noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5344878851139332715.post-82281766312112198152010-05-30T19:29:55.642-04:002010-05-30T19:29:55.642-04:00Eve, I think that look on her face was determinati...Eve, I think that look on her face was determination. I don't think she wanted him to run roughshod over her, so she put every ounce she had in her being to be just as good as he was--for which of course she hardly gets credit. Plus, she was a better actor than him.Kimberly J.M. It does feel odd to enjoy the Bojangles of Harlem number today, but for a classic movie fan it is essential to understand the history of not only the era, but also as you said Kim, the intention behind it. The Pick Yourself Up Number is a favorite!ClassicBeckyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03591715859057540467noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5344878851139332715.post-35771001194814934342010-05-30T03:07:30.413-04:002010-05-30T03:07:30.413-04:00"Chance is the fool's name for fate"..."Chance is the fool's name for fate" (mixed up in so many amusing ways by "Tonetti" in THE GAY DIVORCEE)The Lady Evehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11963115499930520653noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5344878851139332715.post-9008673588552206812010-05-30T01:05:56.973-04:002010-05-30T01:05:56.973-04:00Kim, thanks for another fine write-up. This may be...Kim, thanks for another fine write-up. This may be my second-favorite Fred & Ginger flick...though it's a toss-up with THE GAY DIVORCEE. Like Eve, THE GAY DIVORCEE was my introduction to Astaire & Rogers--it boasts excellent turns by TOP HAT alumni Edward Everett Horton, Eric Blore, and Erik Rhodes (whose difficulty in remembering an important phrase is hilarious).Rick29https://www.blogger.com/profile/08358116647815569722noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5344878851139332715.post-47995681025945657152010-05-29T20:27:22.344-04:002010-05-29T20:27:22.344-04:00Great review, as always, Kim. I recently read somewhere that one of the reasons Ginger was Fred's best partner was how she reacted to him as an actress, while they were dancing. She responded as if dancing with him was the ultimate romantic experience on earth(looks like it was to me!)- she seemed enthralled when they danced. I love TOP HAT and SWING TIME equally and have a very soft spot for THE GAY DIVORCEE, too, since it was the first Astaire/Rogers I saw and I fell for them hard. I suppose I prefer "Cheek to Cheek" - for the song as much as the overall dance number and Ginger's fabulous feathered frock. Thanks for another great blog...The Lady Evehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11963115499930520653noreply@blogger.com
