I can't watch Pride of the Yankees either because Cooper carries the aw shucks act waaay too far.panavia999https://www.blogger.com/profile/12022750065016664499noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5344878851139332715.post-88548814054682755512010-07-05T21:13:23.701-04:002010-07-05T21:13:23.701-04:00Thanks to all who enjoyed the review. As for the film itself, I agree that Gary Cooper overplays the role a bit...it's not among my favorite Coop performances. But SERGEANT YORK is nonetheless an interesting film about an unlikely hero (not dissimilar from the later Audie Murphy autobio TO HELL AND BACK).Rick29https://www.blogger.com/profile/08358116647815569722noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5344878851139332715.post-43549770013202360222010-07-03T13:52:26.183-04:002010-07-03T13:52:26.183-04:00Kim, I absolutely loved your heartfelt review of &...Kim, I absolutely loved your heartfelt review of "Sergeant York." It has been a long time since I have seen this. I enjoyed the reminder of Matthew 22:21. And I loved hearing how you used the film to educate students about WWI.

We truly have so much for which to give thanks and your review and profile of this classic work were an excellent reminder. Thank you, Kim, for a very thought-provoking post. I liked the way you wove historical facts into your review to give a background to this extraordinary man's experiences, as well as the state of our country at the time. The film is wrenching as it moves from the very private life of nature in the backwoods to the unnatural landscape of war, with the roaring of guns and the stark reality of constant death. I am reminded of "The Deerhunter", which also showed us the life of ordinary Americans, and then quickly wrenched us out of that life to the horrors of Vietnam. This was an excellent choice for a 4th of July tribute, and you did it justice.ClassicBeckyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03591715859057540467noreply@blogger.com
