He began performing in his youth, to some extent because his family lived near the film capitol. His lengthy career includes stage, film and TV.

Nicole identified Fred Astaire, Mystery Man 1, below ... Congratulations, Nicole!
Born in the midwest, he achieved fame on the stage in New York and London. His first top-billed film role was in an adaptation of one of his stage hits.
His career was long and varied and he is among those who have had their hand and footprints immortalized in cement at Graumann's Chinese Theater. But that was just one of the many accolades bestowed upon him, here are a few more: Kennedy Center Honors, AFI Lifetime Achievement, two Emmys, three Golden Globes and an Academy Award.
Fred Astaire :)
ReplyDeleteYes, Nicole, it is Fred Astaire. Great job. I thought this one might go quickly ( young Fred resembles older Fred a great deal - in my eyes, anyway), I have another MYSTERY MAN...and I'll post him shortly. Thanks for playing, Nicole...
ReplyDeleteWell done, Nicole! That is a really cute picture of the very young Fred Astaire.
ReplyDeleteI have no guess yet as to the identity of the other gentleman.
richard chamberlain
ReplyDeleteJames MacArthur?
ReplyDeleteExcellent guess, Saz. It's not Chamberlain, but there are similarities - both born in California, both leading men who achieved a certain amount of success. Both very handsome.
ReplyDeleteThis actor is older than Chamberlain and is best known for two particular films. He is fortunate that one of them is a timeless mid-century classic. He's won an Obie and been nominated for an Emmy....
Tom - we were commenting at the same time...good guess, too, but it's not James MacArthur...
ReplyDeleteJimmy Hawkins?
ReplyDeleteGood try, Tom, but not Hawkins. This actor appeared in two anthology (portmanteau) films of the early 50s, played a madman in another 50s film based on a true story from an earlier era...and appeared on TV series from "Wagon Train" to "Murder She Wrote"
ReplyDeleteWas he on the Love Boat?
ReplyDeleteas a matter of fact, he was
ReplyDeleteI'll take a wild (wrong) guess: Kevin McCarthy.
ReplyDeleteIs this guy still living?
ReplyDeleteWell, he didn't look like Kevin. But he does look a little like Farley Granger!
ReplyDeleteHi Rick - not Kevin McCarthy, but great guess, and I think the picture I posted shows some resemblance to McCarthy...and yes, Tom, he's alive...
ReplyDeleteRobert Blake?
ReplyDeleteWe have a winner...Mr. Rick29 has identified Mystery Man #2 for the day, FARLEY GRANGER, who starred in STRANGERS ON A TRAIN, ROPE, O HENRY'S FULL HOUSE, THE STORY OF THREE LOVES, THE GIRL IN THE RED VELVET SWING and several others...He was nominated for a Daytime Emmy for "One Life to Live" and won an Obie for "Talley & Son" (1986) - he's very much alive and lives in New York...Congrats, Rick!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tom and Saz, for joining in...more next week...
Thanks, Eve, for creating and hosting a fun new game!
ReplyDeleteGlad you're enjoying it - I am, too - and I think it will become more fun over time (and as I figure out what I'm doing!)...
ReplyDeleteare you guys going to play "Guess the Movie" again sometime in the future?
ReplyDeleteLike James Bond, the "Name the Movie Game" will return. But it's gone on haitus for a few months...you know like most network TV shows do between late November and February.
