Flynn was still at the top of their roster, and just look at the costumes! Please stop labeling this movie a "lesser" entry.mvksmallnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5344878851139332715.post-49610064900923597072010-03-20T21:27:42.880-04:002010-03-20T21:27:42.880-04:00Rick, this was a well written and fun review and I...Rick, this was a well written and fun review and I loved the photo of Errol entering the door with his gun drawn! Kevin, your observation about the directorial assignment made very good sense. Dawn, I enjoyed your description of Mr. Flynn as being both handsome and debonair!toto2https://www.blogger.com/profile/09652682900471649463noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5344878851139332715.post-80600223456638324112010-03-19T07:02:31.214-04:002010-03-19T07:02:31.214-04:00RICK, I have not seen this movie, but.. the handso...RICK, I have not seen this movie, but.. the handsome and debonair Errol Flynn, can not do anything wrong in my book. ;)Dawnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03476174860119487509noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5344878851139332715.post-5228583639620343262010-03-18T20:02:56.470-04:002010-03-18T20:02:56.470-04:00Kevin, I think you're right on target with you...Kevin, I think you're right on target with your comment about David Butler. Never thought of SAN ANTONIO as a Republic-type Western, but I can see the similarity (though the bigger budget gives Errol's film a nicer look).Rick29https://www.blogger.com/profile/08358116647815569722noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5344878851139332715.post-82350743332283161672010-03-18T17:44:08.690-04:002010-03-18T17:44:08.690-04:00Rick: I kinda like this one too, while recognizing...Rick: I kinda like this one too, while recognizing its limitations. For me, it seemed to Warner's answer to the very popular "B” westerns Roy Rogers was churning out at Republic Studios. Like a Roy Rogers western, most of the action in "San Antonio" takes place at the end while the beginning is loaded with musical numbers and comedy.

I think the stress on music and comedy was the reason the film was assigned to director David Butler, rather than, say, a Raoul Walsh. He specialized in musicals and comedies at Warner Bros. No doubt that background gave him the assignment.Kevin Deanyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07697597405552599370noreply@blogger.com
