I went through a divorce in 1985 and missed a lot that year...this is one I'll have to check out. Dark weird humor is my favorite!ClassicBeckyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03591715859057540467noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5344878851139332715.post-12433959280677756922009-11-12T22:01:40.663-05:002009-11-12T22:01:40.663-05:00For those who haven't seen this quirky classic...For those who haven't seen this quirky classic, here's a link to the trailer on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlEYRjlVtjg. Monty, you're right on about the two Korean drag-racing brothers, one who doesn't speak English and the other who learned by listening to Howard Cosell! The latter brother gets the best line: "Language lessons. Inspired words from a man who knows how to ski." And that 1967 Camaro is a beauty! Thank you, monty, toto & Rick, for sharing your love of a great film. Oh, and Rick, one of my favorite parts of ONE CRAZY SUMMER is the grandmother who feeds her grandson and his friends and gives them a bill afterward.sarkoffagushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00922698736476674377noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5344878851139332715.post-71933514887677464412009-11-12T19:29:40.056-05:002009-11-12T19:29:40.056-05:00Sark, what a delightful choice for one of the Cafe...Sark, what a delightful choice for one of the Cafe's "feel good" movies! BETTER OFF DEAD is an 80s classic! I think this film does a wonderful job of capturing teen angst, even as it pokes fun at its lead character (and life in general). While the popular choice for best John Cusack teen flick of the 80s is SAY ANYTHING, I much prefer the richer, darker, funnier world of BETTER OFF DEAD. And, as you know, I'm a fan of ONE CRAZY SUMMER, too (the destruction of the "little city" by the Godzilla-like creature made me laugh 'til my eyes watered). To close, all I have to say is: I want my two dollars!Rick29https://www.blogger.com/profile/08358116647815569722noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5344878851139332715.post-17137585711177694962009-11-12T18:57:36.989-05:002009-11-12T18:57:36.989-05:00Awesome movie and awesome post. Great blog Sark and let's not forget Lane's face off with the guys who always want to race him. When he finally fixes up his car and pulls his out the driveway to the sound of Bad to the Bone...classic!montyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01357464302627055092noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5344878851139332715.post-9826810903869597522009-11-12T11:36:49.122-05:002009-11-12T11:36:49.122-05:00Sark, I have enjoyed many of John Cusack's mov...Sark, I have enjoyed many of John Cusack's movies. He undeniably possesses a boyish charm that can make him quite likeable. As you pointed out, the viewer finds himself supporting Cusack as a hitman in "Grosse Pointe Blank," a seeming paradox. But he is capable of making movie magic and "Better Off Dead" is a wonderful example of that. Magnificent job, Sark! Your heartfelt write-up has made me want to revisit this quirky work once again.toto2https://www.blogger.com/profile/09652682900471649463noreply@blogger.com
