The Movie-TV Connection Game (August 2017)

Fredric March and Robert Redford.
Welcome to the first 2017 edition of our most popular game! As always, you'll be given a pair or trio of films or performers, your task is to find the common connection. It could be anything--two stars who acted in the same movie, two movies that share a common theme, etc. As always, don't answer all the questions so others can play, too. There is a single best answer for each question.

1. Beach Blanket Bingo and Dr. No.

2. Shindig! and Pajama Party.

3. The Carey Treatment and The Andromeda Strain.

4. Tony Randall and Vanessa Redgrave.

5. Robert Redford and Fredric March.

6. Shelley Fabares and Larry Hagman.

7. Sidney Poitier and Robert Urich.

8. Oliva da Havilland, Jason Robards, Jr., and Richard Carlson.

9. Raquel Welch and James Caan.

10. Tony Musante and Robert Blake.

11. S.W.A.T. and Welcome Back, Kotter.

12. Knight Rider and St. Elsewhere.

13. Raymond Massey and Lionel Barrymore.

14. Cat People (1982) and Copacabana (1985).

15. 101 Damatians (1961) and Cat People (1942).

  2. These are hard. I can only think of two. #10 - Tony Musante starred in a police show called Toma. The show was retooled and redebuted as Baretta with Robert Blake as the star. #12 - William Daniels was one of the doctors on St. Elsewhere and was the voice of KITT on Knight Rider.

    1. Right on both counts. Be proud...not many people would have gotten #10.

  3. 8. Aging prematurely? Happens in SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES, and THE MAZE for the latter two. And Olivia must've "played older".

    1. There's a simpler, less interesting connection.

  4. # 3. Both movies are based on novels by Michael Crichton. But that's so easy there must be something else.

    1. You're correct. And "easy" is relative...not many people know MC wrote THE CAREY TREATMENT. But you do!

  16. There are other answers to 7 and 8, one way of which is literary-related. That's all that remains for this game.

  17. 7. Poitier starred in the original 1958 version of The Defiant Ones, and Urich was in the 1986 TV remake.

  18. 8. All appeared in adaptations of Ray Bradbury stories: Olivia de Havilland in the TV movie, The Screaming Woman, Jason Robards, Jr. in Something Wicked This Way Comes, and Richard Carlson in It Came From Outer Space.
