Movie-TV Connection Game (July 2020)

Rex Harrison and Marc Singer.
The rules:  You will be given a pair or trio of films or performers and will be required to to find the common connection. It could be anything--two stars who acted in the same movie, two movies that share a common theme, etc. As always, don't answer all the questions so others can play, too. There is a single best answer for each question. Yes, that's means we're looking for something in particular!

1. Bob Denver and Ray Milland.

2. Ray Milland and Leslie Howard.

3. Leslie Howard and Bruce Campbell.

4. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and The Man With the Golden Gun.

5. Rex Harrison and Marc Singer.

6. Charlotte's Web (1973) and The Hound of the Baskervilles (1959).

7. Honeymoon in Vegas and Beach Blanket Bingo.

8. Jennifer (1978) and Stanley (1972).

9. Jane Eyre (1944) and Peter Pan (1953).

10. The Wolf Man and The List of Adrian Messenger.

11. The Bishop's Wife and For Your Eyes Only.

12. James Mason and Claude Rains.

  3. #6. Spiders! Charlotte's Web features the good-hearted arachnid. The Hound of the Baskervilles features Miles Malleson as Bishop Franklin who is an obsessed entomologist. Is that it?

  5. Well, your choice of artwork offers a bonus clue for #5. Both Harrison and Singer played movie title protagonists who could communicate with animals, Rex as "Doctor Dolittle" and Marc as "The Beastmaster."

  6. For #3, this might be pushing it, but all I can think of is both played masked heroes (or heroes with secret identities) - Leslie Howard as The Scarlett Pimpernel and Bruce Campbell as The Daring Dragoon in the how-come-more-people-don't-know-this-show Jack of All Trades (which I happen to be rewatching right now with my brother-in-law).

    1. That's a fascinating connection and I do remember Jack of All Trades (deserves to be on DVD...iffy quality on YouTube at one time). That said, there is another connection related to characters they played.

    2. I thought that might be a little obscure, LOL! I'll keep my thinking hat on. Jack of all Trades is on DVD, cuz I own the set! Had it for several years though, so not sure if it's still available or not. The theme song for that one gets in my head and stays there like no other.

    1. That's a good connection, but there's also another one.

  8. 12. James Mason and Claude Rains both had women who were undercover pretend to be in love with them in Alfred Hitchcock movies, North by Northwest and Notorious, of course.

"I too believe in neatness, Leonard. This matter is best disposed of from a great height, over water."

    1. That's a good one, too. Another response is that both played professors: Ray Milland in IT HAPPENS EVERY SPRING and Lesley Howard in PIMPERNAL SMITH and PYGMALION.

    2. Milland played a prof on his mid 50s tv show as well. I remember it well.

  18. #15. Julie Andrews (Sound of Music) and Dudley Moore (Bedazzled) Blake Edwards her husband directed them both in the movie 10.

    1. That is true! Also, both THE SOUND OF MUSIC and BEDAZZLED featured nuns (in the latter, Dudley Moore plays a nun).

  19. The last question remaining, #9, is kinda tricky. JANE EYRE and PETER PAN both have nannies. In PETER, the nanny is Nana, the dog. She could be considered more of a nursemaid than a nanny, which made this one a poor question.

  20. Jane Eyre was a governess, not a nanny.
